Dad once drove his car accross lord nelson public
school field to tell me to get the hell out of a tree.
He drove right into the

lot and then accross the whole schools back yard.

Dad could be a character.
He had his moments.

He meant well.
He told me he didnt want me in the tree.

Our dad was a bit of a spaz eh jeff and winnie?

I think you and winnie know that.
He never did anything too bad.
But he had his moments.
And remember in 1978 dad drove the blue ford maverick?
One day he was driving it and He drove that car he had at that time around cascade onto Trafalgar street in east london when we lived on Cartier road .
and then, there saw me on
top of the garbage bin at shaw's dairy store.
Jeff, dad just freaked.
He was tripping.
" get the hell off the garbage bin!""
Dad sceamed at me.
"" you,ll get hurt kerry!!!"""
Dad yelled.
Then
I panicked and slipped.
And my knee fell onto a large bolt on the garbage bin.
Dad told me to get in the car.
I walked sturdy enough but limped a bit getting in the car.
When I got in the car I was too afraid to tell dad I was bleeding profusely.
From where the bolt went in my knee.
While dad screamed at me that I had to be more careful!!

Dad screamed.
Meanwhile his screaming caused me to to get hurt.
I wouldnt have gotten injured if dad didnt come up out of no where in his car, and then totally alarm me by screaming at me like a madman while I was on a bad angle situated on the bin.
Anyways,
Mom bandaged up my knee when I got home.
While dad was fixing a problem on the car or something outside, he was still upset.
"" listen boy! You have to be more careful!"
Dad cried out.
"" okay dad""
I said.
O well.
That' was simply dads way.
He couldnt help it.
He meant well.
But if he didnt scream for me to get off the bin I wouldnt have slipped.
And injured myself.
He wanted me to be safe. But unfortunately his screaming didnt help.
Strange man, was dad.

the picture I have of William and me outside the senescent market?.
Dad took that picture.
On that note for the record
, me and cousin billy told dad to take the picture inside the market.
Downtown. In london.
Before they did the outside and inside renovations to the market downtown.
It was just a red brick building .
Remember?
Anyways, me and billy suggested to dad to take the picture of us, inside.
Where it would have more pizazz.

COUSIN BILLY KNEW IT TOO.
THAT DAY COUSIN BILLY AND DAD HAD BEEN DRINKING IN THE RICHMOND HOTEL BY THE WAY.
AND THEY WERE BOTH A BIT TIPSY.
I WASNT.
I HADNT BEEN DRINKING.
I MET RHEM AFTER THEY LEFT THE BAR.
I MET THEM WHILE THEY WERE MAKING MERRY OUTSIDE THE RICHMOND HOTEL.
WHERE WE STARTED WALKING TOGETHER TOWARDS THE MARKET.
SHALL I SAY?
That's true.
BUT,
ANYWAYS, ENOUGH OF THAT STORY.
EVENTUALLY DAD AND BILLY WENT HOME ,,TO SLEEP OFF THAT DAY OF DRINKING.
BILL WALKING AND DAD ON THE 21 HURON HEIGHTS BUS.
BUT REGARDLESS, NOW something else worth noting presently is this.
ON THE MATTER OF DAD, JEFF, I WILL NOW STATE THIS.
YA KNOW JEFF,
Dad had a very unique way of saving everything. TOO.
I FEEL THAT SHOULD BE POINTED OUT AT THIS CONJECTURE IN TIME.
WHICH WAS RESPECTFUL.

I mean, I'm sure other people have preserved their belongings.
I've seen them do it.

Winnie, in my bicycle travels I've passed many abandoned homes.

Just for the sake of record.

And in the middle of no where.

So I go in and search the houses.
Ya know?,

Their abandoned and in the middle of no where...

Many of em are clearly broken down. Too.
And flOors are unsteady.
Most aren't even locked up.
But jeff you nut you,
I'm telling you, a lot of em still have a lot of stuff inside..
And like I said,
I'll tell ya,people save stuff.
I've seen some pretty interesting things and probably valuable antiques in my bicycle rides accross various sections of canada.
People save stuff.
I know that. Jeff and winnie.
For example,
I saw some really old bikes that looked in good condition at an abandoned farm on highway 17 on my bicycle ride to thunder bay, for example.
In july of 2018.
But how could I have salvaged them.
And took them out of that abandoned place?

I was on a bike ride. Accross ontario.

They were in the barn.
So I left them.
Whatever.
Anyways
I saw some other things that were valid. Too.
In the farm house.

I didnt take a lot of the stuff, winnie and jeff.

What was the point?
I took some things.
Though.
Ya know?
Some.
Sure.
Why not?
Leaving them in the middle of no where is silly.

Theyd clearly been abandoned.
So I e taken some things.
On occasion.
Why not?

But not much.
For example, I presently have a few items in my cupboards.
A senescent antique shaver like grand pa liked to shave with.
That was in that house.
On highway 17.

Woe my. Yes.

It works fine. Too.
Ya know???
I also have an old transistor radio.
From another house. On highway 22 .
I found that last summer.
I believe itll work if a battery is in it.

Plus I have a few other items.
But win, and jeff why would I not?

When those items were sitting in an abandoned farm house?
Clearly deserted for years.
Theirs no point not to then.

Anyways, whatever.

The point to this story is as follows.
Regarding dad specifically this should be said.
On this subject.
The point is simply this.
Many people save things.
But dad did it in a very strange unique respectful way.
May he be honored for that.

Dad did it his own way and lived independently
until he passed away peacefully in his 90th year. He loved getting together with family and friends, and always enjoyed those times as the best part of life. Dad could strike up a conversation with anyone and he was well-known for his lively storytelling skills and tremendous memory for facts and people.

He is missed 
but we know that he is now in eternal joy with the angels. Jim was predeceased by his wife Johanna (1966) and his wife Maria (2006). 
Dad will be missed always and lovingly remembered by his children Winnie (Willem), Jeff, Kerry and grandchildren Lydia, Julia, Christian, Chris, Jackie, Margot. 
A memorial service with time for fellowship after, will be held on Friday June 7 at 1 pm. Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 716 Classic Drive, London Ontario. Online condolences may be left at www.mpcemetery.ca

as a child i listened to this man. people.
and the many ventures i had with this man. before he recently passed away. into eternity. regarding this existence.
and as i look back on the many ventures i had with this individual, i'll say, at the moment, only this stands out, presently.
which is this...:
while growing up , often sales people would call the house. moreover at night.

trying to sell something to my dad over the phone.
for the record.
it was interesting listening to my father reason with these sales people.
he would ask strange questions. like, can they deliver the merchandise the sales person was selling , that night for example. ya know?
regarding the company represented on the phone. supposedly.
things like that.
the conversation would carry on like that for a while actually. usually about 5 or ten minutes.
until the salesperson on the other end of the phone would ask my father his name.
at that point my father would say, '''my name? YOU WANT TO KNOW MY NAME?
hMMMNNNN? LETS SEEEE? WHATS MY NAME? yes. whats my name again? ? HMMNNN? LETS SEEE/ UMMMMM?
MY NAME IS........ UMMMM? MY NAME IS OOO YEAH!
MY NAME IS PETE HINES. EMKAY?
that ws my dads sobriquet in this life.
for everyone he didnt know.
or trust.
THEN, AFTER THAT,
USUALLY AT THIS POINT THAT POINT IN THE CONVERSATION- THE SALES PERSON WOULD ASK FOR OUR ADDRESS AND MY DAD WOULD SAY, ANTARTICA.
, THUS ENDED THE CONVERSATION. WHEN I ASKED MY DAD WHY HE DID SUCH THINGS INSTEAD OF JUST HANGING UP, MY DAD WOULD SAY, ''WELL, YA NEVER KNOW, YOUNG MAN.. THE SALESMAN MIGHT BE SELLING SOMETHING LEGIT.
SO I TOY WITH THEM, BOY. TIL IAM SURE
YA SEE BOY?

this ones simple but interesting. okay, straight forward and to the point.
it runs as follows.
one night about the year 1995 a d i was drinking booze at my poppys place.
with my daddy.
for the record,
we had a nice night. people.
we socialized. politely and laughed. like fathers and sons should do.
for the record.
it was a nice drinking get together. we had fun.
but all good times end. regarding this existence. thats why god gave us memories in this life.
to honor what is good.
in that regard.
so,'at the end of the day of this wonderful day i had with my father back in the year 1995 a d, i got ready to leave for my residence.
before i could depart though,
for the record, my
dad says to me
'kerry, son, you want to sleep in the sleeping bag tonight? your a bi drunk?
you should stay the night.''
'''well your a bit drunk too, for once too dad'' i said.
''but anyways
''okay, dad, i'll stay and crash for the night, here.'''.
'' so i did.
nothing that alarming about that. that's true.
the interesting part of this story and memory of me and my father is still to come people.
worded as follows:
so, to continue,
at about 3 in the morning, the phone rang.
it woke me first.
because i heard my dad a snooring. in his bedroom.
then, my dad woke when the phone rang two rings later.
i remember being too tired to pick up the phone. so i laid in my sleeping bag,..
anyways,
no sooner did dad wake up when i heard him walk incredibly quick towards zeee phone.
and a quick show began.
probably the fastest show ever.
as, without saying anything, ''at all' in fact- with not a peep or word out of his mouth, he quickly grabbed the phone he had raised us with , me jeff and winnie and him and my mother too, and picked it up, then pulled it towards him, yanking the chord right out of the wall, and then my dad, with lightning speed that even surprised me, that night, proceeded to throw the phone extremely hard into the living room wall.
he just missed the balcony glass door!
thank the lord for that.
and
that was the end of that phone.
then my dad calmly walked back to his bedroom and bed.
and went back to sleep.
in a matter of 'if i recall correctly'' about a minute.
aw the memories of my dad.
and me too. together. some strange. but still true.
i miss that old phone.
as said, it was the one dad raised us with. from a baby we had it. even at 39 cartier road i remember that phone.
but my dad got another old style dial telephone '''at''' i think the zellers, the next day.
never one to fool around. with sleep disturbances.
o yes. my dear ol dad.
